"Smoggy and strange. He's wrapped in a cloak. Underneath he is naked. The creature is lost and confused"
Scene Four, Nick Dear
What distinguishes Nick Dear's Frankenstein from other interpretations is that it is told entirely from the perspective of the monster. It is then the role of the light design to visually represent the monster's experiences. Inspired by late 19th and early 20th century German Expressionist art, the design creeps between emotional and visual extremes.
